At The DeBlois Gallery
Artists Rosemary Kavanagh O'Carroll, Dorothy Magadieu, and Nancy Shand will exhibit their work at the DeBlois Gallery, Newport, during the month of May. Each of the artists has found inspiration for their work in the everyday world around them. Utilizing their talents and creativity, each of them has transformed the ordinary into art that is quite extraordinary in their respective mediums. Rosemary O'Carroll has documented the lives of migrant workers throughout the United States through her emotionally charged paintings. Greenhouses, both the contents and the structures themselves, have provided opportunities for expression for photographer Dorothy Magadieu. Nancy Shand uses items gathered from the beach that she combines with other materials to produce her unique sculptures.
This show runs from May 3- June 3 with an Opening Reception to meet the artists on Saturday, May 3 from 5-7pm.
The DeBlois Gallery, located at 138 Bellevue Avenue, Newport, RI, is open Tuesday through Sunday , 12-5 pm. For more information, visit the website at www.debloisgallery.com or call 847-9977. |

Hessam Abrishami at Sheldon Fine Art
Hessam emigrated to Los Angelis, California where he continues to expand upon his creativity. He explores a realm which the French press has called “A statement in the fluidity of human figures… He created a tension between each figure, a kinship of place or condition that provokes the viewer to seek reasons for such relationships.” Greatly influenced by modern masters from Cezanne to Picasso, Hessam’s boldly colorful paintings are filled with love and laughter, music and dance.
Hessam Abrishami has provided the world with images that capture as essence of love and romance.

Al & the Jersey Girls Paint New England
May 3 - May 31, 2008
Opening Reception Saturday, May3, 2008 from 5 - 7:00 p.m.
This exhibit will feature recent works by a group of friends who have a love of painting familiar scenes of the surrounding area. As the title suggests, the three women artists: Laura Swift Oakley, Lisa Bliss and Mary Lou Harrison have strong ties to New Jersey. Along with Al Matukaitis, each artist has taken a different path through life to now have converged on Rhode Island. This convergence will be celebrated with an opening reception of Al & the Jersey Girls Paint New England on May 3rd from 5-7 pm at Spring Bull Gallery in Newport, Rhode Island.
Laura Oakley attended Salve Regina University, and while there met and married. After years of raising her family and teaching school she developed a passion for watercolors under the tutelage of Natalie Pfsnsteihl. Lisa Bliss began her art studies at The University of Cincinnati and at the Art Academy of Cincinnati but was strongly influenced by her mother, a skilled artist. Mary Lou Harrison, teaches art in the Scituate RI school system where she received the Teacher of the Year Award and also was a recent recipient of the National Distinguished Educator Milken Award. Her formal art studies began at Rhode Island School of Design continued at the University of Calif. and now locally spends her rare free time studying and painting the great out doors. Al Matukaitis started painting at an early age when given his first oil paint set. His favorite subjects then were soldiers, sailors and Indians, all found in his favorite books. After a stint in the Air Force, Al resumed his love of art and art studies through workshops and classes as he moved around the country and raised a family and finally settlled in Jamestown
These friends express through their painting the joy of the ever-changing colour, light and shapes found in nature. "Al & the Jersey Girls Paint New England" will be showing for the month of May at Spring Bull Gallery. There will be a special Gallery Night in Newport on Thursday, May 8th from 5- 8pm.

Let’s Go to the Movies
January 5th - January 31, 2008
Opening Reception Saturday, January 5, 2008 from 5 - 7 p.m.
"Let’s Go to the Movies" is creative expressions of a favorite movie in an art medium. Whether it is a turbulent sea in "The Perfect Storm," the music of Cole Potter ringing in one’s ears from "D-Lovely,"or the memories of the old movie theater from your youth before the multiplex. Each conjures up a scene that can be depicted in an art form. This is the challenge for local artists as they choose a movie that they wish to render in art.
The public is invited to browse Spring Bull Gallery on a cold winter’s day to see if their favourite movie was also rendered in watercolors, pastels, graphics, glass and other media. The
exhibitions’, "Let’s Go to the Movies", opening reception is Saturday, January 5th from 5-7 pm and will be on view at the gallery for the month.
Spring Bull Gallery is located at 55 Bellevue Avenue in Newport, Rhode Island. The gallery is wheel chair accessible. Hours are 12 - 5 daily. For additional information about the gallery, exhibitions, and artists please call the gallery at 406-849-9666 or go on-line to www.springbullgallery.com.
